About Central African Republic
The Central African Republic is a landlocked country of plateau savanna in the heart of the continent, with its capital Bangui on the Ubangi River border. Once the French colony of Ubangi-Shari, it became independent in 1960 and later endured Bokassa's short-lived empire and repeated civil wars. Diamonds dominate exports, yet it remains among the world's poorest states.
