About Tanzania

Tanzania was formed in 1964 when Tanganyika and Zanzibar united, and its name was coined from both. It holds Africa's highest point, Mount Kilimanjaro, and the continent's lowest, the floor of Lake Tanganyika. Julius Nyerere's ujamaa socialism shaped its early decades. Dodoma is the political capital while Dar es Salaam remains the largest city and main port.
