About Mali

Mali is a landlocked West African country and the eighth-largest in Africa, with Bamako as its capital and largest city. It was part of the Ghana, Mali and Songhai empires, whose trans-Saharan trade wealth made Timbuktu a famed centre of learning. Gold mining now dominates exports, and Bambara is the mother tongue of nearly half the population.
