About Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia occupies about 80 percent of the Arabian Peninsula and was founded in 1932 by King Abdulaziz. Riyadh is its capital, while Mecca and Medina draw around two million hajj pilgrims a year. Oil discovered in 1938 turned the kingdom into a leading exporter and the only Arab member of the G20.
