About Jordan

The answer is Jordan, a semi-arid kingdom in the Southern Levant with Amman as its capital and largest city. Its landscape runs from the world's lowest land point at the Dead Sea to the carved Nabataean city of Petra and a short Red Sea shoreline at Aqaba. Independent in 1946 under the Hashemites, it signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1994 and today hosts more than a million Syrian refugees.
