About Iraq

Iraq is a West Asian country of over 46 million people, with Baghdad as its capital. Its plains between the Tigris and Euphrates hosted Sumer, Akkad, Babylonia and Assyria, the cradle of civilisation. Baghdad later led the Abbasid Islamic Golden Age. Independent in 1932, it holds some of the world's largest oil reserves.
