About Israel
Israel, in the Southern Levant of West Asia, declared independence on 14 May 1948 and is the only country where Jews are the majority. Jerusalem is its proclaimed capital and seat of government, while Tel Aviv is the largest urban area. Hebrew is the world's only revived official language, and the country leads the world in research and development spending.
