About Vatican City

Vatican City is the world's smallest sovereign state, a 44-hectare enclave inside Rome created by the 1929 Lateran Treaty. Ruled by the pope as an elective absolute monarchy, it holds Saint Peter's Basilica, the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museums. It issues its own stamps and euro coins and is the only World Heritage Site consisting of an entire state.
