About Vanuatu

Vanuatu is a Y-shaped Melanesian archipelago of about 83 volcanic islands in the South Pacific. Britain and France ruled it jointly as the New Hebrides from 1906, and it became independent on 30 July 1980 under Walter Lini. It has the world's highest density of languages per person, along with Pentecost land diving and the John Frum cargo cult.
