About Kiribati

Kiribati is a Pacific republic of 32 atolls plus the raised coral island of Banaba, with only 811 square kilometres of land spread across millions of square kilometres of ocean. It became independent from the United Kingdom in 1979 and its islands straddle the equator and the 180th meridian. Its easternmost islands keep the world's most advanced time zone at UTC+14.
