About New Zealand

Māori arrived in about 1300 from eastern Polynesia; Europeans followed in the 1640s and 1760s. The Electoral Act of 1893 gave all women the right to vote in national elections. The kiwi cannot fly, lays an egg a fifth of its body weight, and lent its name to everyone who lives here.
