About Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan is a landlocked Central Asian country where the Karakum Desert covers over 80 percent of the land. Independent since 1991, it has been ruled by the Niyazov and Berdimuhamedow personality cults and holds the world's fifth-largest natural gas reserves. Its white marble capital, Ashgabat, and the burning Darvaza crater are its best-known sights.
