About Tajikistan

Tajikistan is a landlocked, overwhelmingly mountainous republic in Central Asia with Dushanbe as its capital. It declared independence in 1991 and endured a civil war until 1997, and has been led by Emomali Rahmon since 1994. Its economy leans on aluminium, cotton and migrant remittances, while its Persian-rooted culture shows in Nowruz, Shashmaqom music and oshi palav.
