About Trinidad and Tobago
Trinidad and Tobago is the southernmost Caribbean nation, sitting just off the coast of Venezuela. Its economy runs on oil and gas rather than tourism, and Pitch Lake is the largest natural asphalt deposit on Earth. African and Indian heritage shaped Carnival, calypso and the steelpan. Independence came in 1962 and republic status in 1976.
