About Barbados
Barbados is the southern and easternmost island of the Caribbean, a coral-limestone landmass out in the Atlantic on the boundary of two tectonic plates. Sugar cane brought from Dutch Brazil in 1640 built a plantation economy worked by enslaved Africans, whose descendants form most of the population. Independent since 1966, it became a republic on 30 November 2021.
