About The Bahamas
The Bahamas is an archipelagic country of some 700 islands and more than 2,500 cays in the Atlantic, north of Cuba and southeast of Florida. Columbus made his first New World landfall here in 1492, and the country became an independent Commonwealth realm in 1973. Its capital, Nassau, lies on New Providence, and tourism and offshore finance drive the economy.
