About Haiti

Haiti occupies the western side of Hispaniola and is the most populous country in the Caribbean. It was born from the only successful slave revolt to found a state, declaring independence from France in 1804. It is known for Vodou, compas music and the Citadelle Laferriere, and also for earthquakes, crushing debt and gang violence.
