About Bulgaria

Bulgaria lies on the eastern Balkans, south of the Danube and west of the Black Sea, with Sofia as its capital and largest city. Its First Empire, recognised by treaty in 681, gave the Slavic world the Cyrillic script before Ottoman rule began in 1396. Today it is a European Union member that adopted the euro in 2026.
