About Benin

Benin is a narrow West African country on the Gulf of Guinea, with Porto-Novo as capital and Cotonou as its seat of government and only seaport. Known as Dahomey until 1975, it grew from the Kingdom of Dahomey, famous for its female soldier corps. Cotton dominates its exports, and the coastal town of Ouidah is the spiritual centre of Vodun.
